Issue: When examining Encounters associated with a Sighting, cannot Edit the data related to the Sighting – above the table
What did you expect to happen?
Data should be editable
What are some steps we could take to reproduce the issue?
See sample data provided
Can you verify your role permissions? I’m signed in as an admin and I see the following on the same sighting:
In this instance I was logged in as a researcher.
It would seem we need to give researchers access to those fields also.
While I agree that that makes sense from my understanding of how data interconnects, I want to make sure there isn’t any serious security consideration I’m missing. @jason, any idea why researchers can’t edit sighting metadata?
Group Behavior and “Estimated total individuals participating” are editable if you have admin or silo security permissions that unlock the Sighting for you. Other fields are not currently editable due to no past demand for it, or for example “Number marked individuals participating” is a calculated field based on the number of MarkedIndividuals that participated in the Sighting via identified Encounters.
I should note: in the new UI, I would expect these fields to be editable, unless they are calculated fields or blocked to the user via silo security.
I will make a note of this discrepancy in the documentation so it’s at least clear that this is expected behavior. That being said, this is functioning as intended for the time being.
