Adding "habitat type" as location data in mantamatcher

What Wildbook should this feature be in?

MantaMatcher

What would you like to see?

A “habitat type” field added for location data. There is the “verbatimLocality” column for bulk uploads, but this is not included in any data analysis. Can we add our own column for habitat type that can be analyzed, or is there an existing column that we can use for this?

How would this functionality help you?

Guitarfish are often seen resting on the seafloor- we record what habitat type they’re seen on (i.e. “hardbottom”, “open sand”, “sand groove”, etc.) This is different from a location ID because we can have different habitat types in the same study site/location. A place to enter and track this in Mantamatcher would be very helpful for the data we collect!

Encounter.sightingRemarks may work for this.

Encounter.researcherComments leaves comments on the Encounter page under the Encounter History icon (formerly the Audit Trail), but this isn’t searchable.

Encounter.sightingRemarks leaves comments on the Encounter page under Attributes > Observation Comments. Use this if you need the comments to persist on any cloned Encounters.

Then if you need to export data for encounters by habitat type, you can go to Search > Encounters > Sightings > Observation Comments and enter the habitat type here.
