Annotation swap

What Wildbook should this feature be in? GiraffeSpotter

What would you like to see? When I upload an image for a single encounter but it has a background giraffe in it, detection adds a second annotation and associated encounter. Most of the time, the annotation associated with the detailed encounter (i.e., the one containing sex, ID etc) is the wrong annotation (i.e., the background giraffe). I must then delete the additional background encounter, remove the annotation, and then add the new corrected one. It would be great to be able to “swap highlighted encounter” to adjust the linked encounter to the correct annotation without the need for additional work of deleting and adding annotations (this also negates the need to deal with accidental image removal which also still happens even if entire occurrence of open).

How would this functionality help you? Save us time in the processing phase

If requesting a new location ID, include

  • Is this is nested beneath another location in the hierarchy?
  • Is there a prefix for region-based naming? (optional)
  • GPS coordinates (optional)

Note: Not all feature requests can be accepted, but all of them are reviewed by our product team. We’re unable to provide implementation timelines for accepted requests. We are a small team with many competing priorities. Thanks for your understanding!

Hi @Anastasia - I’m following up on this post from July.

RE: The ability to modify an existing annotation by dragging/resizing and the ability to “swap” the highlighted annotation with a secondary annotation in the image.

We often have the annotation applied to wrong giraffe in the image. This will be an issue for all group species, where it often not possible to get an image without background animals. Remove and adding takes a long time, and also still blips out and removes the image entirely, even when all encounters in the occurrence are open.

I think this is related to duplicated/historical posts but it was resolved with a fix for 10.6.0 but we do not have this feature in GiraffeSpotter 10.8.1.2.

I had a UI interview with someone last month so I know there is another big roll out coming soon, to update the workflow interfaces to match the new bulk import workflow. So perhaps this is coming soon? Please let me know, thank you

Good question! The ability to edit and move annotations is part of the 10.9 release which is beginning to roll out this week. I don’t have an exact timeline for when it will be on GiraffeSpotter just yet, but it should be within the next few weeks.
