Hi @lviloria

It sounds like this should be a sub-location for Mexico. Can you clarify whether this belongs under Baja California Sur?

Hi,
Yes, it belongs to Baja California Sur, but not to the Sea of Cortes, as well as Bahia Almejas, Bahia Magdalena y Canal Lopez Mateos.

Do you mean that these also should not be under Sea of Cortés?

Just for context, when Flukebook first started, all the locations were based on bodes of water. As it expanded, country names were added and as it grew further, it became clear that there is no perfect way to label bodies of water and countries in a hierarchy. That aside, when Flukebook looks for match candidates, it’s only looking for matches in the named location ID, not all of the regions above it. For example, if the location ID on an encounter is Baja California Sur, match candidates would also have the location ID Baja California Sur and would not include encounters whose location IDs are Sea of Cortés unless you specifically selected it while manually starting a match.

Eventually we will update the location hierarchies to separate bodies of water and countries, but I wanted to clarify that a location’s placement in the hierarchy is not likely to impact your match results in the way you expected.

Hi,
That’s right, the zones aren’t part of the Sea of Cortés, but rather part of Baja California Sur. Thank you for clarifying that the hierarchy doesn’t affect the identification.

Best regards.

Great; thanks! I’ll get the new location added this week.

Thanks for your patience. I’ve added the new location and moved it up in the hierarchy so it’s no longer listed under Sea of Cortés
