Is there an easy way to filter matches by geography in Sharkbook?

What Wildbook should this feature be in?

Sharkbook

What would you like to see?

We have IDs from Carcharias taurus (sandtigers / grey nurse sharks) from the east coast of the USA, the east coast of Australia, and other locations may be added going forward. There are unlikely to be matches between oceans in this species. Is there a way to auto-filter matches by ‘major geography’, such as ‘Australian east coast’ to reduce the number of false positives in the matching interface?

How would this functionality help you?

The North Atlantic team have noted that the large number of Australian images being onboarded to the photo library makes it more difficult for them to find matches.

If requesting a new location ID, include

  • Is this is nested beneath another location in the hierarchy?
  • Is there a prefix for region-based naming? (optional)
  • GPS coordinates (optional)

Note: Not all feature requests can be accepted, but all of them are reviewed by our product team. We’re unable to provide implementation timelines for accepted requests. We are a small team with many competing priorities. Thanks for your understanding!

Hi @simonjpierce

I don’t know how feasible a pre-selected major geography section could work in a way that satisfies everyone’s needs. I think the best way to accomplish this is to manually select the location IDs you want included in matching.

On the bulk import page, you can expand the size of the location ID list and hold Ctrl (PC) or Cmd (Mac) while clicking to multi-select location IDs.

From the encounter page, You can click on “Start another match” on the hamburger menu of an image and expand the Location ID section of the “Choose criteria to match against” popup to click the checkboxes next to the locations you want included.
