Dear Anastasia,
I’d like to request a new location ID for Angola in Zebra Wildbook. Is that possible?
Thank you!
Best,
Filipe Rocha
Hi @frocha, welcome!
I’ve moved this to its own post since the previous post had been resolved. Do you mind filling out this template for me?
- Is this is nested beneath another location in the hierarchy?
- Is there a prefix for region-based naming? (optional)
- GPS coordinates (optional)
Quick update: I’m going to add Angola as a top-level location in Zebra. I should have this wrapped up by next week.
Hi Anastasia,
I’m sorry for the late reply. I might need to update the notifications from the Forum.
Answering to your questions:
-
Is this is nested beneath another location in the hierarchy?
No, it is an entirely new location. -
Is there a prefix for region-based naming? (optional)
I don’t think so. Unless, since we are using the Zebra Wildbook to identify mountain zebras (a species the algorithm is not trained to) and others might identify Plains’ zebras from the country, I would suggest creating a sub-region inside Angola, e.g. Angola - IonaNP -
GPS coordinates (optional)
N: − 15° 43′ 31′′; E: 11° 44′ 06"
N: − 17° 17′ 17′′; E: 13° 20′ 29′′
Thanks,
Filipe Rocha
Hi @frocha
Is the first set of coordinates for Angola and the second set for Iona National Park?
Also, are these the correct decimal conversions for each?
- 15.725277777777778, 11.735
- 17.28805555555556, 13.34138888888889
Hi Anastasia,
Thanks for your reply.
The coordinates I gave were for the extent of Iona National Park. The converted coordinates for decimal degrees WGS84 are:
N -17.26937, E 11.73241; N -15.72784, E 13.34432
The coordinates of the extent of Angola are:
N -18.04208 E 11.66847; N -4.372591; E 24.08212
Thanks,
Filipe
I’m sorry about the wait.
For reference, this is the format we use for decimal entries in the code:
If you can give me a single decimal value for each lat and long entry, I can update the file. If not, I’ll leave it empty.
Hi Anastasia,
I’m sorry, I thought you used the extent so the coordinates inside could be assigned to that location directly.
In this case, the centroid coordinate for Iona NP is:
lat: -16.36166
long: 12.49976
And for Angola is:
lat: -12.27413
long: 17.54357
Thanks,
Filipe Rocha
