Photographer name to display &/or the field be fillable on encounter record

What Wildbook should this feature be in? ACW

What would you like to see?

Photographer name in the encounter record. When a user enters the photographer email, if that email is already associated with a name, have that name display in the record next to the email address. If the email address entered is new and therefore not associated with a “userID” name, then the photographer name field should display so that the user can enter the photographer name.

How would this functionality help you?

This would address 3 challenges:

  1. The photographer’s name is always captured and associated with the email address entered for same. Since it’s the researcher who is likely working with the encounter record, they don’t have access to User Management functionality and so cannot enter a name with the email address themselves.
  2. The user/submitter can validate that the name associated with the email is as expected.
  3. Reduces admin effort to manage what will become thousands of user accounts purely to ensure the photographer’s name is captured along with the email address.

Alternatively, we will need to have the Photographer Name and Photographer Email fields in the Report an Encounter page, un-hidden on ACW, with the name entry causing the email field to become required.

This is a solid point. However, names are much more likely to be duplicate than emails. This is something we need to take into consideration when we look at implementing this, otherwise we are likely to end up with a lot of mis-assignment between accounts.
