Program for unique frog patterns

Hi everyone, I’m familiar with the amazing work that WildMe and CXL does for conservation, but I’m new here. As a wildlife biologist, I am interested in a program to identify frog patterns in a species where belly markings are unique. We use capture mark recapture surveys. It is a rare species so we don’t have lots of images to train AI models.

I heard about Hotspotter from a fellow researcher. May I know if there are experts here or anyone who’s tried a similar program for amphibians? I don’t have a background in coding and of course would like to learn. I would appreciate any advice from the community here or help in any step by step guides to set up program I can use with the images I have!

Thank you!

Hi @Dhanushri, welcome to the forum!

I’m not sure if you’re looking for a solution outside of Wildbook, but we do have an Amphibian and Reptile Wildbook that uses both MiewID and Hotspotter algorithms to identify matches.

Which frog species are you working with? If it’s a species we don’t currently support, it’s possible that one of our existing algorithms can still positively identify matches even if it hasn’t been exclusively trained on it.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Anastasia! The links were very useful and great to hear there is a Wildbook version which might work for our research.

I would like to try out the Wildbook for Amphibians and Reptiles for a species of amphibian from Southeast Asia with unique markings. I have sent a request for an account and hope the request can be considered.

Thanks again and all the best!
