Project IDs not recorded

In which Wildbook did the issue occur? Seals Wildbook

What operating system were you using? Windows 10

What web browser were you using? (eg. Chrome 79) Chrome 142.0

What is your role on the site? (admin, researcher, etc) Researcher

What happened? The identified individuals I added into a project are shown as not identified within the project. I tried to then identify them on the project by going to match results, but when I check the boxes for the correctly identified pictures these individual Project IDs are not saved (there is no button to confirm a match). I also tried to manually add the individual Project ID name on each individual’s page, and it was saved, but still not displayed in the project under the column “Project ID” and my project still says most individuals are unidentified.

What did you expect to happen? I expected to be able to confirm the individual’s project ID through the “match results” page, or manually by editing the individual’s page. I assumed after doing this to all individuals my project’s identified individual percentage would be 100%.

What are some steps we could take to reproduce the issue? Add a new encounter → assign new ID → add the encounter to an existing project → click “Match results” or the individual’s name under “Name column” to assign Project ID → refresh project page to see if the Project ID is assigned

Hi @lstukonyte, welcome!

Can you let me know your project name so I can take a closer look? I suspect this is related to an known bug, but I want to verify the project is set up correctly before making any assumptions.

The project is titled Saaremaa Grey Seal Females. Thank you!

Thank you! It does look to be the same bug reported here: Project IDs don't display correctly in project page · Issue #1128 · WildMeOrg/Wildbook · GitHub

We’re in the process of redesigning projects and project management for an upcoming release, so this shouldn’t be an issue for too much longer.

In short, Project IDs are supposed to be saved in the format that matches the Project ID prefix set when you create a project. Wildbook is ignoring that and saving it as a different value. The Project ID column in your project is seeing a different value than expected and is not factoring it in to the total percentage of identified individuals.

Luckily, there is a workaround. The project prefix for your project (Saaremaa) is supposed to automatically populate on the marked individual page. Instead, what’s happening is that it’s appending the full project name on the marked individual page. If the Project ID is fixed on the marked individual page to match the format it should have saved as, the ID then displays in the Project ID column of your project and then counts toward the percentage identified.

I’ll show you how to fix it:

Here’s an example of an encounter in your project that has a marked individual (Spotty) but the Project ID column is empty (None).

If I click on the link to Spotty’s marked individual page, I can see where the Project ID was automatically saved as the full project name. Click the Edit button.

Edit the field that says “Saaremaa Grey Seal Females” so it only says “Saaremaa” (your project prefix) and click the Update button.

Go back to your project and refresh the page. The same encounter that had (None) as the Project ID now shows the correct ID. As you go through and follow these steps for all the encounters with (None) in the Project ID column, you’ll see the percentage identified number for the project go up.

As for why this happens, we’re not entirely sure yet, but I can update you when there’s news on the ticket.
