Rename images after uploading to Wildbook

[Posting this on behalf of one of our user’s interns, who is not on Community]

I am currently an intern at Mar Ilimitado in Sagres, Portugal. I have been working with Flukebook for the past two months and have contacted you on several occasions regarding technical issues. I am pleased to inform you that, after resolving all catalogue-related problems, the identification process for bottlenose dolphins via Flukebook is now functioning correctly.

I would like to submit a specific request regarding the Encounter window. As you know, each encounter can contain one or more images, each named according to the filename used at the time of submission (either manually or via bulk import). However, I have encountered two issues related to image naming:

  1. When importing a bulk set of images, each file is named using a code for the sighting and a sequential number (due to our own method of storing them). Once the identification process is complete, it would be extremely helpful to be able to rename the images directly from the Encounter window. Currently, the only way to change a filename is to delete the image, rename the file in my local directory, re-upload it, and add the annotation again — a process that is both time-consuming and error-prone.
  2. Flukebook has helped me identify several mistakes made during manual photo-identification. I have been able to correct the individual IDs within Flukebook by assigning the correct name. However, the image still retains the original filename, which includes the incorrect individual code. This inconsistency may lead to confusion and potential errors when managing or revisiting the data.

For both of these reasons, I kindly ask if it would be possible to implement a feature that allows the user to rename images directly within the Encounter interface, or at least update the image name after submission.

Thank you very much for your time and support. I truly appreciate the work your team is doing to improve this powerful tool.
