Spot a Shark AUS - R0924 Shark ID not correlating

I am using Spot a Shark Australia, and I was reviewing an unapproved encounter (see here):
https://spotashark.com/encounters/encounter.jsp?number=dd46e614-6bed-4505-beb2-664f7f1118a8

Based on a pattern match this shark was the same as shark with ID R0924. However, when I tried to add this encounter to R0924 it would not let me add it as an existing shark. This ID would not appear in the drop down.

I have managed to add it to R0924 by selecting that R0924 was a new ID, hoping that it would link the two sharks, but it hasn’t. When you click on the R0924 ID for the encounter there are now 2 separate encounter records for the same shark ID.

See below, these two should be merged. Why are they separate?
https://spotashark.com/individuals.jsp?id=ecd3ac04-5426-44a0-b396-de906786621f
https://spotashark.com/encounters/encounter.jsp?number=dd46e614-6bed-4505-beb2-664f7f1118a8

And why was R0924 not showing in the available drop down list in the first place?

Hi, @Sarah_Aus_SpotaShark !
It looks like the individual R0924 (Spot a Shark) is Carcharius taurus, whereas the new encounter (Spot a Shark | Login) is Carcharias taurus. Note the spelling difference here. Once that gets fixed (for one of the other), you should be able to connect the encounter to the individual.

As for creating a new ID of R0924, I’d recommend deleting that new ID.

Hoping that this makes sense to you!

Hi, @Sarah_Aus_SpotaShark !
In light of the Great Species Renaming, I think that it makes sense to resolve this issue, right?

@Sarah_Aus_SpotaShark I’m marking this as resolved. Let me know whether to unmark it.

Thanks!
