System to not allow for 2 annotations in the same media asset to be assigned to the same individual

What Wildbook should this feature be in? ACW

What would you like to see?
We’ve seen instances where 2 or more animals in the same media asset have been assigned the same ID, incorrectly, by the user. It would be very helpful if the system threw up a warning to let the user know that this should not be possible.

How would this functionality help you? Where there are multiple animals in a picture, there can be “photobomb” or near photobomb type overlaps that cause the user to make a mistake in the ID from the match results. This gets multiplied when there are many photos from that sighting - excited tourists taking many photos of 5 cheetahs together, for example. So having that warning would help prevent this error and improve the integrity of the individual IDs in the system. It’s quite hard to fix this kind of issue after the fact.

Also, in a similar vein, if a user enters what they think is a new Default ID for a Marked Individual but where that Default ID already exists in the database, it would be helpful if there was a warning from the system of some kind that would tell the user this. Avoids ending up with multiple instances of the same Default ID. It would also help direct the user, if the pics are of the same individual, to merge them or add the encounter(s) to the pre-existing Marked Individual of the same ID rather than to create a new/duplicate ID.

I hope that makes sense.

thanks!
