2 animals in one annotation - how to fix?

What Wildbook are you working in? ACW

What is the entire URL out of the browser, exactly where the error occurred?

Can you describe what the issue is you’re experiencing?
I have 2 cheetah in an image and, unfortunately, both have been captured within a single annotation. I’d love to use the new Add Annotation function but I don’t which animal is considered not in the annotation, if that makes sense. Also, that won’t fix the original annotation, which I assume won’t match against any others in the system while it’s assumed to be one very long cheetah instead of 2 separate ones.

What is the recommended approach for this problem? @PaulK tells me he’s also run into this issue with wild dogs. I suspect we’ll run into it relatively frequently.

Can you provide steps on how to reproduce what you’re experiencing?

As an example, I assumed the existing annotation (covering two cheetahs) was the “real” annotation, and I used the “add annotation” option to draw a bounding box around the upper cheetah. This spawned a new Encounter:

(I added this manually to the Occurrence, something we can automate in the future).

and new matches:

This does not fix the fact that the original annotation is too large, but it does create a workaround: just create a new Annotation and use that for ID. You can then delete the Encounter for the offending, too-large annotation to have it ignored for matching, leaving you with your new Annotations for matching (e.g., create a new one for the upper cheetah and a new one for the lower cheetah).

Hope this helps,

Makes sense. thanks Jason.
