Hi @PaulK, thanks for posting.
Each of the annotations available on the Gallery has a different annotation for which animal is highlighted for that picture. You do not need to access the annotation highlight to start a match, just the right-hand menu on the image, as depicted in the screenshot below.
While the information display is not ideal for the workflow of researchers working with highly social animals, it is functioning as intended and you should be able to start a match for any of the annotations you are trying to work with.
