What happened?
I uploaded 377 pictures in a bulk import and added them to a project (Amphibian and Reptile Wildbook | Login). Suddenly 3 more pictures were in this project and looking closer at the encounters they say e.g. “NOTE: cloneWithoutAnnotations(8c8181f7-8071-4689-bafa-d8cf69fcf80e) → ceb39486-6f68-43a5-ace1-0f722b436da1” (Amphibian and Reptile Wildbook | Login).
What did you expect to happen?

What are some steps we could take to reproduce the issue?
Make cloning not possible

Hi @LauraSchulte

This is the machine learning working as designed, and like a human, it can make mistakes. In this case:

It found two salamanders (rather than the correct 1), and it duplicated the Encounter because the definition of an Encounter is “one animal at a point in time”, and two annotations in a photo means two animals…with each annotation now assigned to an Encounter. After a bulk import, if you have multiple animals per photo or if machine learning makes amistake, you may end up with more encounters than anticipated. If you find that machine learning has made a mistake, you can then just delete the Encounters for which you believe the annotation is useless or a mistake.

Thanks,
Jason
