Bulk Import adding file path to file name

What Wildbook are you working in? Internet of Turtles

What is the entire URL out of the browser, exactly where the error occurred? https://iot.wildbook.org/import/photos.jsp

Can you describe what the issue is you’re experiencing? When uploading images, part of the file path (not all of it) is being added to the filename of the image. E.g. ‘20250529 For IoT/20250525xxxxxx.jpg’ instead of ‘20250525xxxxxx.jpg’

Can you provide steps on how to reproduce what you’re experiencing?
Bulk import photos, upload spreadsheet, photos are not found.

Note that I thought this issue was isolated if I was using a thumb-drive to upload, but now have also experienced the same issue when uploading files from my external drive, and files on my hard drive.

If this is a bulk import report, send the spreadsheet to services@wildme.org with the email subject line matching your bug report

Hi @GoBeach

Thanks for sending your spreadsheet!

I see the file path displaying on the Photo Review page, but it isn’t preventing imports from being uploaded and it’s not altering the file name of the images on the encounter. Is it possible that you selected different photos to import than the ones named in your spreadsheet?

If everything otherwise looks ok, can you email us the photos for this import so we can continue looking into this?

Hi Anastasia,
Correcting my ‘issue’ the images upload fine, but they’re not found once I upload the spreadsheet because the spreadsheet contains the filename, not the path. I’m pulling the images and the spreadsheet from the same place.

Some of the files are larger (I know I should fix that) so not sure emailing will work - gmail will choke on larger files.

What should the behavior be when selecting files to import? I don’t see the option to select individual files, I get stopped at the directory level.

I don’t think it’s the appearance of the file path that’s the issue as I also saw it in my test import and I didn’t run into any issues there.

How large are your image files? I think Gmail’s limit is on files that are 20mb and above. Our Photography Guidelines recommend that each encounter image is a maximum of 3mb.

You mentioned that your spreadsheet also lives in the same folder as your photos. That by itself shouldn’t cause any issues with your photo import. The current version of bulk import only lets you select an entire folder to upload so you won’t be able to choose individual files from that folder.

In the next Wildbook 10.8.0 update this behavior will change so you can select individual files from a folder to import. In the meantime, you’ll want to put the images in your spreadsheet in their own folder for upload.

OMG - my apologies for wasting your time - it was my spreadsheet - it wasn’t auto-saving. I just tried again and it’s working wonderfully. I owe you lunch for that one
