What Wildbook are you working in? GiraffeSpotter
Please can you confirm the taxonomy accepted for all species/subspecies? When I use Giraffa camelopardalis camelopardalis it is accepted in bulk import, Giraffa camelopardalis_camelopardalis is not accepted. But the taxonomy is not registering in the encounter correctly. Same issue with other subsp with repeated name (e.g., Giraffa giraffa giraffa)
(1) uploaded with “Giraffe camelopardalis camelopardalis”
(2) altered manually to register correctly and it turns to Giraffa camelopardalis_camelopardalis but this is not accepted in bulk import
Ooh, I feel like I remember something about this being discussed internally as it relates to the code, but wasn’t aware that it could affect how to enter taxonomy data in bulk imports. Let me do some digging and get back to you.

Thanks for your patience! You can keep using Giraffe camelopardalis camelopardalis in your spreadsheets. Whether the taxonomy is automatically selected in the edit menu vs “not available” doesn’t impact anything. The default behavior is to display as “not available” across all other Wildbooks; it’s not really clear why it sometimes shows the selected taxonomy in GiraffeSpotter. Looking at all of the existing data in GiraffeSpotter, they’re all recorded as Giraffe camelopardalis camelopardalis without the underscore. Despite the manual selection showing an underscore, it’s still pointing back to Giraffe camelopardalis camelopardalis, so this isn’t affecting who’s displayed as match candidates.
While there’s still some cleanup on the backend to keep things looking consistent on the front end this isn’t going to create issues with your data. Thanks for flagging it!
