Failure to detect two close-by individuals in a photo

What Wildbook are you working in?
Amphibian and Reptile Wildbook

What is the entire URL out of the browser, exactly where the error occurred?

Can you describe what the issue is you’re experiencing?
I uploaded a photo with two close-by individuals. There are two annotations in the photo (which is as it should be), but both annotations include the two individuals.

Is there a possibility to separate the two individuals?
Is this a problem at all for the matching process?

Best wishes,
Pia

Hi @Pia

It is easy to see why the detector got confused here, though oddly if you roll over the big green annotation, there is another one underneath it, so to some extent the system did in fact find two animals, but their bounding boxes (squared) almost completely overlap because they are so close. While you can delete these annotation and replace them with two manual annotations, manual annotations are rectangular boxes too, and it will be hard to isolate the pixels of one from the other, which will definitely impact matching.

I think a photo like this requires some Photoshop or another paint program and using the magic wand tool (or equivalent) to cut out the animal, create a new image with only its pixels, and then submit these two encounters (one for each animal) manually.

Thanks,
Jason
