Identifying other body parts in Flukebook in a single encounter

Flukebook

Hello, I am new to Wildbooks and testing it for our dataset. What an amazing resource, thank you! I am using Flukebook to match Tursiops aduncus (I know that the algorithm is developed for T truncatus but they are very similar). We have a lot of underwater photos and regularly utilise other parts of the body for identification (fluke, pec fins, pigmentation, etc) in addition to the dorsal fins. I have started manual annotations of these body parts within an encounter and linked it to the iaClass: T truncatus. But there is no option to choose a body part. Does this mean that a matching step will not incorporate these annotations and only use the dorsal fin? Or can I train the classifier to look for extra features by creating these manual annotations for the individual?

As a result, I have several photos of each individual from different aspects within an encounter, but the manual annotations are in some cases being created as new encounters. Is it possible to keep them in the same encounter? I am selecting the ‘add image’ option within a single encounter.

Is it possible to delete encounters? I have admin rights I think but I don’t see an option to remove and in this testing phase I would like to clean up some of the encounters.

Thank you, Gemma

UPDATE:
I have worked out how to get the encounter to successfully load multiple images at one time (it didn’t seem to work before hence why I was adding images one at a time) and now I have a series of photos for a single encounter.

Outstanding queries:

  1. Matching and identification of manual annotations.
  2. Deleting encounter (I believe I have a researcher account, rather than admin)

Thanks again!

Hi @gveneruso

I’m glad to head you’ve had good luck utilizing the Tursiops truncatus algorithm for Tursiops aduncus!

If I’m not mistaken, MiewID can find individuals based on the full body, not just the fins so it doesn’t need only the dorsal fins annotated.

It sounds like you’ve got manual annotations figured out. From there, you can refer to our help docs for manually starting a match.

You can delete an encounter by clicking the edit button next to the Metadata section of the encounter and scrolling down to click on the Delete Encounter? button

I’ll talk to my teammates about adding Tursiops aduncus to the taxonomy in Flukebook so you can continue testing the Tursiops truncatus algorithm with the correct taxonomy named on your encounters.
