Match results page for seals Wildbook now has results from two algorithms

What Wildbook are you working in?
Seals Wildbook.

What is the entire URL out of the browser, exactly where the error occurred?
Click on any of the match results from this bulk import: https://seals.wildme.org/import.jsp?taskId=70777be4-610d-4958-85d4-a3c92f01d1ab

Can you describe what the issue is you’re experiencing?
When I look at the results page for the encounters of my newest bulk import I now have four results per encounter. There are two results per annotation (head and body annotations), one from the Hotspotter algorithm and one from the MiewID Deep Learning Matcher. Is this latter algorithm supposed to be present? This is my first time seeing it.

Also, the match results from encounters imported a while ago are no longer loading. For example these match results did not load for me even when I had the tab open for more than 5 minutes. Seals Wildbook

Hi @CindyE

Yes, this is new and nothing to worry about! HotSpotter doesn’t perform as well with larger data sets so we’re eventually moving away from it as the primary algorithm since MiewID performs just as well or better and can process ID jobs much faster. You may find positive matches that appear in one algorithm’s results and not the other, so multiple algorithms can be a helpful tool in making sure you find a correct match.

I checked your example link and there are no match results displayed because no match candidates were found. See where it says “Image Analysis has returned and no match was found”? HotSpotter will only return match results if the match score is greater than 0. You can see in the menu bar that it checked against 59 candidates. Based on the location ID and species, it determined that no matches existed.

Keep in mind that match results are a snapshot in time. Since that match was run back in October, hundreds of new encounters have been added to Seal Wildbook since then. If you re-run the match, you’ll be checking against any newer data that was uploaded since the match was first run you may find a match candidate.

Thank you for the clarification!

For the example link where I said there are no match results:
I understand that nothing appears under the first result since “Image Analysis has returned and no match was found.” What I am confused about is why the second result is blank:

This looks like a WBIA issue occurred during matching. You’ll want to manually re-run that match to verify whether the other image had any match candidates.
