Matched by = Unknown

If this is a bulk import report, send the spreadsheet to services@wildme.org with the email subject line matching your bug report

In which Wildbook did the issue occur? Internet of Turtles

What operating system were you using? (eg. MacOS 10.15.3) Mac OS and Windows

What web browser were you using? (eg. Chrome 79) Chrome in both but diff versions

What is your role on the site? (admin, researcher, etc) Admin and researcher

What happened? Reviewing the team’s work for a Bulk Import and noticed that there is no username associated with assigning a match or individual id. The username is listed as ‘Unknown’ - this seems to be the case regardless of whether I’m logged in as Aquarium of the Pacific (Admin role) or myself (researcher role) and I did check several different bulk imports and those turtles who matched to another turtle, and those who were assigned a new ID.

What did you expect to happen? I would have expected the username who either assigned the match OR assigned a new id to the turtle to appear in the box, but

What are some steps we could take to reproduce the issue?

Hi @GoBeach

Good question! This field is actually for recording the method used to make an identification on the encounter (help doc link with descriptions here). If you click the Edit button in this section, you’ll see a drop-down menu with available options:

If you’re looking for who confirmed the match, that should record automatically in the encounter’s Audit Trail in the Metadata section. It will show up as “Added to [individual ID]”.

Thanks @Anastasia I checked one of the Turtles we have ‘matched’ and don’t see the entry in the audit trail. See this Turtle: Internet of Turtles as an example.

If an animal was bulk imported with an ID, it wouldn’t appear in the audit trail. I checked both encounters for the individual you linked and they both came from bulk imports:

You can see this at the bottom of the Metadata section of the encounter page. Because it was matched before it was uploaded to Wildbook, there is no entry for it in the Audit Trail. If it was uploaded as an unknown animal and was later assigned an ID visually or from the match page, then you would see an entry for it in the Audit Trail.

Hi @Anastasia , I checked an Encounter that I uploaded via bulk upload and I am certain that I didn’t have any matches when I uploaded. I’m not seeing the ID assignment in the metadata. See Internet of Turtles

The table in ‘Imported via xxxxxx’ is not a replica of the Bulk Upload spreadsheet. Those IDs were assigned manually by our team.

Hope this helps,

Cheryl

Thanks for the background! Do you mind emailing that bulk import spreadsheet to services@wildme.org so we can do some testing with it? I want to make sure we can replicate and figure out why it’s not recording who set those matches.

Thank you! I hope to have an update for you soon.

Just checking in to let you know I’m still working on this; I haven’t forgotten about you. I expect to have an update for you this week.

Here’s the ticket link where we’re tracking this: User who set match not recorded in IoT logs · Issue #1375 · WildMeOrg/Wildbook · GitHub

Logging has been fixed for who set an ID in IoT. I verified the fix this morning if you want to try it now.

You should now see the user who set an ID noted in the Audit Log of the encounter.
