What happened? two bulk imports, uploaded by @FrederikeOtten have got duplicated encounters due it the MediaAsset being assigned two different MediaAsset ID (I think…).

For example Import Task 88f5e5eb-f6f7-4834-9cfc-d261545d4724

Sighting ZMB_20240618162841 should have 5 encounters as per the bulk import form (emailed). However, 9 have been created.

Encounter of LG-0698F (original, as location description included) - Wildbook for Giraffe has the Parent MediaAsset ID 755342, and the duplicated encounter Wildbook for Giraffe (location description missing), the Parent MediaAsset ID is 750076. The Annotation IDs are also different, but there does not appear the be a duplicated annotation on the image.

This has occured in bulk import Import Task f5fbeae8-4099-445d-8e48-2f13fc691bbd as well. I looked through both bulk import forms and I can’t see why it might have created these duplicates. Freddie confirmed she uploaded the photo folder only once. Any insights would be appreciated!

What did you expect to happen? No duplicates - I can’t see the reason why the duplicate encounters have been created.
What are some steps we could take to reproduce the issue? Please see link above for example, and xlsx has been emailed.

It looks like this image was imported twice as part of separate bulk imports. When you have the encounters open side by side, you can see below the Audit trail box in the Metadata section a link back to the import it came from. One was imported as part of this import from this week and the other came from this import in December.

Have you checked the Data Integrity tool for Find Annotations Duplicated in Two or More Encounters and selecting Frederike from the drop-down menu? You can see this image and its encounters listed in row 319 of that table. She should also have access to this tool if she needs help cleaning up any duplicate data.

This sighting ID was used twice across two different bulk imports. When I look at the sighting link you sent, I can see the 5 encounters associated with the lagoon in your recent import. When you open one of the encounters at the lagoon and one of the others without a location description, you’ll also see below the audit trail that they are from different bulk imports. The 5 encounters are from this import and the other 4 on that sighting ID are from this import.

Thanks so much for confirming/explaining @Anastasia
