Multiple images of same turtle - how (or should) I designate in bulk import

What Wildbook are you working in? Internet of Turtles

What is the entire URL out of the browser, exactly where the error occurred?

Can you describe what the issue is you’re experiencing? I think I mis-interpreted the directions/header titles in the bulk upload instructions.

I’ve got multiple photos of the same turtle, and thought it would be good to upload them all … maybe so the AI engine can learn(?). I was putting the multiple photos on the same line of the spreadsheet under the column headers
Encounter.mediaAsset0 Encounter.mediaAsset1 Encounter.mediaAsset2 Encounter.mediaAsset3, ETC.

When looking at the Encounter entry created by the bulk upload, I saw all 3 photos and assumed that they were all automatically associated with the same ‘turtle’ - this isn’t the case.

Question(s):

  1. What’s the right approach for this
  2. Is it worth my time to do this? if it’s not benefiting the machine learning, and the images are pretty similar, maybe I should just upload 1 photo.
  3. If the multiple images are from different angles, what’s the best way to designate that the images are the same turtle?

Can you provide steps on how to reproduce what you’re experiencing?

If this is a bulk import report, send the spreadsheet to services@wildme.org with the email subject line matching your bug report

Hi @GoBeach

It sounds like you’re setting it up correctly based on what you described. Feel free to email us your spreadsheet so I can take a look.

Here’s the help page the illustrates what your spreadsheet should looks like for adding multiple images to an encounter: Bulk Import FAQ — Wildbook documentation

This is the method you’d use if you have multiple images of the same turtle from the same encounter.

However, if your main goal is to upload multiple images of the same individual taken on different dates/places, then you’d treat them all as unique encounter entries on the spreadsheet with the corresponding dates and places it was seen. You’ll want to include the MarkedIndividual.individualID field in your spreadsheet and add the turtle’s ID here so you’re adding to the catalog data for that individual.

It’s definitely beneficial to have multiple viewpoints of the same individual as it helps us with algorithm training. I appreciate you thinking ahead! This is also helpful feedback for when I record additional training videos for bulk import spreadsheet setup in the coming weeks.
