What Wildbook should this feature be in? SealWildbook
What would you like to see? - Would it be possible to somehow NOT get the automatic annotation of seal+head in every photo where there is already a ‘seal’ (full body) annotation? It complicates things because the matching process of the ‘seal+head’ annotation does not seem to work well, and I have to delete it every time.
How would this functionality help you? It would then not require me to delete all annotations and add new ones on each picture. Now, when this annotation appears and I want to see matches for a normal ‘seal’ full body annotation, it first shows me random matches of the ‘seal+head’ annotation, always showing “matched against 6 candidates” and the candidates are always the same few images uploaded by somebody else (image attached). Then, to delete the ‘seal+head’ annotation, I have to delete both - as the ‘seal’ annotation is larger and covers the ‘seal+head’ one so I cannot click on it.
Hope there is a way to adjust this! Thank you
Hi @lstukonyte
I’ve changed this from a feature request to a support request.
There are two issues here: the unclickable annotation and poor head matching for grey seals.
We’re actively working on a fix that prevents the larger annotation from making the smaller annotation unclickable when they overlap. I don’t have an exact timeline yet for when this update will be ready, but here’s the link to the ticket: encounter page image/annotation display, larger annotations can obscure smaller annotation actions · Issue #1411 · WildMeOrg/Wildbook · GitHub
I’ll need a little more time to look into the head matching issue. I’ll let you know when I have any news.

Quick check-in on the head matching: it looks like head annotations may not actually be configured for this species (which could explain the questionable match results for them). However, I’m having trouble testing which viewpoint label is being used on the head annotations due to the body annotation preventing me from selecting the head annotation for closer inspection.
If you happen to come across a head annotation that’s selectable, can you post it here so I can test with it before you delete it?
Great; thank you! There does seem to be some kind of discrepancy with the IA class labels being used in detection and which ones this species is configured for. I’ll discuss with the devs and follow up with a ticket if needed. Thanks for your continued patience.
We’ve reclassified the annotation IA classes. Now that the IA classes are uniform, you should see a bigger variety of match candidates for this species and better matches for head annotations.
We also have a fix for the body annotations covering the head annotations that should be live in Seal Wildbook before this weekend.
