In which Wildbook did the issue occur? IoT
I’m experiencing an issue with the Photographer field in the Encounter Annotation table.
Previously, for all my older encounters, the exported table correctly displayed the photographers’ names. However, I noticed today that for a new encounter I just created (ID: a79e5184-f7b9-40d2-a329-b1b3619b0ef3), the photographer’s name is missing from the export, even though I filled it out in the form.
I have tried to re-submit or update it a few times, but the field remains blank in the annotation table.
Is there a known issue with recent uploads or a specific reason why this record isn’t mapping the photographer’s name like the previous ones did?
There’s a known issue where certain metadata fields export as blank even though the data is recorded on the encounter. Here’s the ticket link for it: Make all encounter metadata exportable in a standard export · Issue #985 · WildMeOrg/Wildbook · GitHub
Just to clarify, you said you don’t have this problem with exports of older encounters but only with exports of newer ones? I know that Wildbook will only save photographer information if the photographer’s email address is included. If you try to only enter their name and not their email address, it won’t save as the email is a required field.
Thank you for the support and the clarification.
Regarding that point, I’m not sure if the email is actually a required field, as I was able to successfully submit the encounter while leaving it blank. Since the system allowed the submission, what is the recommended procedure when a photographer does not have an email address? How can we ensure their information is correctly saved in those cases?
To give some context, the name/email combination entered in these fields are treated similarly to user accounts in a Wildbook. This means that this data is stored in the same place user information is on the back end. Because a “user” without an email address can’t be stored in the database, it ignores the name if a corresponding email address isn’t included.
Because there’s no requirement to include photographers on an encounter submission, it’s not flagged as a required field. It’s only “required” in the sense that Wildbook won’t recognize a name without an email address and will ignore the name without one. If you want the photographer’s name saved on your encounter you have to enter an email address with it.
