Based on the orientation of the spots, Spot Mapping infers whether the shark is facing left or right. What happened with this encounter is that while the spots may have been mapped correctly, the map determined that it must have been left side image based on the atypical angle of the shark in the image.
In this case, there are so few visible spots, the code doesn’t think there’s a pattern there. Also, the image quality and the angle make it a poor candidate to detect a pattern for matching.
