Seal Wildbook working very slow

What Wildbook are you working in?
Seal Wildbook

Can you describe what the issue is you’re experiencing?
The site has been very slow from at least yesterday, 13.1.2025. Pages are opening more slow that usual, same with submitting new encounters.

Any idea what could be causing the slowness?

** Also it seems that the automatic annotation does not work when submitting a new encounter.

Looking into this today.

We’re re-syncing acmIDs and re-sending those to detection. That should complete today and you’ll be able to re-send those encounters to identification to see match results.

I got confirmation this morning that detection has caught up if you want to start re-IDing today.

How about the encounters that were submitted and automatic detection & annotation didn’t happen. They are “still waiting for detection”. For example:

This one was annotated manually, but I still can’t start matching:

Thanks for the update!

We’ve increased the length of time Seal Wildbook looks back to check on detection re-sync. It should cover about 35 more encounters. I don’t know if this task will complete before I leave today, but I will check up when I return next week (Monday is a federal holiday here).

*Update to this: Wildbook still feels pretty slow. Submitting an encounter and especially adding new pictures to encounter are much slower than usual.

Automatic detection or annotation doesn’t seem to happen or if it does it takes hours or days? I seem now to able to do annotation manually and after that I’m now able to start matching after that, but matching with works only with Hotspotter? MiewID just stops at “attempting to fetch results” after a while. Like here

I know that IoT is undergoing an upgrade still and that it shares a WBIA with Seals. Let’s check back on this again after the IoT upgrade is complete to see if the issue persists.

The IoT upgrade finished today. Let me know if you’re still seeing slower than usual behavior.

Automatic detection/annotation still doesn’t seem to work and the slowness I descripted seems to still be the same. What has changed, is that now both Miew and Hotspotter give results normally (after manual annotation).

Thanks for the update! I’ll share this feedback with the dev team.

*Tiny update:

For some reason after Miew and Hotspotter give the results, some of the match pictures don’t show up. It says “No image available” but when I go to the encounter page itself, all images are showing. (Like here)

Quick status update: something’s going on with the detector configuration that our machine learning team is looking into. Thanks for hanging in there while we continue to figure this out.

This is likely unrelated, but thanks for sharing it. Can you try re-running the match on this one? Sometimes re-sending it to ID makes the candidate images load correctly the second time around.

I will try that, Thank you! I did run more matchings yesterday and I don’t think I saw these “No image available” things anymore.

We’ve resolved the detection issues and WBIA has been gradually catching up on detections and ID. I verified that the test encounters I had submitted last week and this week now have annotations.

Encounter submissions also seem to be loading faster than before. Let me know if you continue to run into any slowness on the site.
