Hi there - I am working through validating old bulk imports in Flukebook and something seems to have changed in the “search by ID” window from last month.
Now when I search up an ID number (e.g., 5080) it gives any encounter ID or unassigned id url with the number in the string (e.g., 6f439970-aa85-4df6-baca-cae5080e0657) as well as other IDs with the species (e.g., 5080 Physeter macrocephalus). However it is not showing any hits for Hyperoodon with this ID… I’ve tried other Hyperoodon IDs and sometimes they are there (but without species noted). Previously when I used the ID search it would show actual IDs (not the weird FB id string) and all the Hyperoodon IDs were noted as such. What is happening?
Hi @ljfeyrer
Are you referring to this part of the encounter search?
If so, this is meant to apply an ID to a set of search filters so that you don’t have to manually adjust the filters each time to repeat a search.
If you’re trying to look for a specific Hyperoodon ampullatus, you’ll want to do an Individual search (Search > Individuals) and then expand the Observation attribute filters to select the genus and species and then expand Identity filters and enter the ID you’re looking for in the Individual names (default, nickname, etc.) contains field.
Hey Anastasia - thanks for the quick reply! No that filter wasn’t where I ran into the issue. The issue arises when searching in the “search individuals” box in the top right corner of the Flukebook menu bar - see images below - hopefully you can see these?
Just to clarify - this did work a couple weeks ago for me to quickly locate an ID!
Thanks for the clarification! It looks like it’s trying to match UUIDs as well as individual IDs. Can you let me know which browser you’re using? You should see a scroll bar in those results that let you find 5080 (though incidentally, the screenshot leaves off the taxonomy, but I believe it’s your whale)
I’ll need to work on this a bit more, but I’ll let you know if I have additional follow-up questions.
Hey Anastasia - Thanks! I am using chrome. This drop down list did used to show the taxonomy for Hyperoodon with the IDs so not sure what’s changed ? Sometimes the record without taxonomy is my whale but not always….
When the quick search bar was reintroduced in 10.6 (It went away temporarily during the 10.3 upgrade) it may have introduced some regressions causing things that used to work fine before to stop working. In any case, I’ll keep testing this and will let you know what I find.
