With sharkbook.ai this evening I uploaded a bunch of photos into sharkbook and as I added photos for each encounters, I added the names of the photographers and their emails. No bugs appeared as I added these encounters and I had no reason to suspect the emails dropped off.
However, for these encounter uploads (and many others I am now discovering) the photographer’s information has not been added or kept with the information.
See example below. I added it this evening. The photographer was Andrew Nieuwenhof.
I just analysed the photo and matched it to the GNS-2086 ID (due to the other bug, I am unable to link it to it as the system doesn’t let me). I wanted to email the photographer and tell him that I found his match and let him know that we are trying to add to the ID, but found this bug.
I went into the encounter, and couldnt find his email address or name - it just said Photographer; Anonymous_6e12e6b3-40ac-42f4-94b0-e45e4419ffaa
This is super unhelpful for me as I will never remember who is sharing their photos and this is a fundamental aspect of the system so that people get feedback on who their sharks are. I think this bug is fairly critical. Photographers information is super important.
When I look at each photo of its history and click through each previous photo submitted, I cannot work out who was the photographer of the photos.
We used to have this data available in several places. One place was the clear email/name that was available in the encounter which is now gone and just shows as “anonymous…”. We also had photographer sometimes listed as freetext in the comments - and I don’t know where to find comments anymore.
This is a very big issue that is preventing me from sharing updates with the community about their sharks.
This issue in unique to older wildbooks. When someone without a Wildbook account submits an encounter (or is added as a watcher or submitter/photographer for an encounter) Wildbook creates a user record for them and stores their email address in the the same place registered users live. Older Wildbooks used to generate usernames for the unregistered users as “Anonymous_###”. This is what you’re seeing displayed on the encounter page.
@Sarah_Aus_SpotaShark since you’re a Sharkbook admin, you can update the display name for these users’ email addresses by going to the User Management page, searching for the email address, clicking on the record, and replacing the Anonymous username placeholder with their actual name.
@DanniS Feel free to email services@wildme.org with any email addresses you’re seeing this issue with and we can update the record to fix the display name.
