Also when I click on one of the sighting ids in the encounter search list I get the message ‘I hit an exception while trying to render this page’ and the sighting page is blank.
Has the sighting search option been removed? Previously I was able to copy and paste the sighting/encounter id into a search text box at the top of the page and search for the sighting.
It sounds like that was related to the hanging database connection issue that was fixed yesterday. I just tested clicking a sighting link from search results from a researcher account and it displayed correctly for me.
This export worked for me this morning. Do you mind trying it again? We restarted Sharkbook after fixing the hanging connections and so far that seems to have corrected some of the recently reported issues. I’ll also send you the exported data in the meantime.
I have tried to select ‘user management’, in Sharkbook which I was able to access before, but now I’m getting access denied and don’t have permission to access this resource. I was hoping to add some more users for our whale shark data.
Copying this reply from your other post here for reference. I want to clarify if both you and your colleague are experiencing the same issue with the blank standard exports?
Yes, we are both experiencing the same issue. However, we have just tried the search and standard export again, and it works for both of us from the classic encounter search, but when we use the new search screen and try the standard export from the resulting list, my colleague gets a spreadsheet populated with data, but I get an empty spreadsheet.
Since we’re not able to reproduce this from our tests accounts, can we get your permission to reset your password so that we can log in as you to continue testing?
Thanks for sending me your export! When I signed in under your account, I was able to do a standard export for all of your data. I also looked at Microsoft’s documentation on blank workbooks to see if the file you sent just appeared blank for you and not for me, but it was blank on my side, too.
Since I can’t reproduce this, I’m wondering if this issue could be your browser. Do you mind trying your Sharkbook export from another browser and letting me know if you’re still getting a blank export? If so, can you let me know which browsers this is occurring in?
I tried an encounter search from Sharkbook using the new encounter search page, in both Microsoft Edge and FireFox and they both produced empty spreadsheets. I was able to export successfully in both browsers using the classic encounter search. I’ll see what browsers my colleague uses and let you know.
I tried and encounter search from sharkbook using the new encounter search page from Google Chrome, and selecting the standard export I was able to successfully export the data into a spreadsheet. However, it still doesn’t work for FireFox and Microsoft Edge.
Thanks for the update! It worked for me in Brave (basically Chrome with built-in adblocking) when I tested it with your account originally.
I just checked Firefox (ver 133.0.3 on Mac) and Edge (ver 115.0.1901.183 on Mac) and got the export to work on both browsers with your account.
If you hear of any other colleagues running into this, have them post here. Since I’m not able to replicate it and you’ve found a workaround by using Chrome for exports, I’ll consider the issue closed for now.
You can go ahead and update your account password in your profile. Thanks for your patience in finding a way to get you unblocked!
